A family garlic farm on the prairie
Located just northeast of Coalhurst, Alberta, on the corner of Highway 25 and Kipp Road.
Kipp Garlic Farm
The first garlic crop was planted in the fall of 2020 and signalled a new beginning for land long used to grow hay. Since then Kipp Garlic has grown into 11 acres of Russian Red garlic, with plans to expand further.
Why we started
After growing garlic in his garden for years on this same land, Bert noticed how well garlic could grow on the prairies, and that started an idea to grow garlic on a larger scale. What cemented the idea was noticing the lack of work available for youth in his family and community. Excited to provide employment opportunities in the community, Bert went ahead and planted the first crop in the fall of 2020.
Where we’re going
Since that first crop, Kipp Garlic has expanded to 11 acres and provided work for the family. Moving forward, we hope to step into new markets and sell wholesale and retail throughout Canada.
We currently sell Russian Red garlic as full bulbs and as seed. We’ve also expanded into making black garlic, which we hope opens new opportunities for the farm.
We hope you enjoy our garlic as much as we do!
